The play is inspired by the author’s family who lived at the base of the Blue Ridge 'Mountains when Shenandoah National Park was established. Ms. Susan Hull is the author of more than 25 poems exploring the lives of her neighbors and relatives beginning in 1918 with the influenza pandemic and ending with their departure from their homeplace in 1936 after the park was established.

Ms. Hull, a teacher at Western Albemarle High School and the school’s drama teacher, Ms. Harriet Resio worked together to adapt her poetry to the stage. The students began work on the drama last December and performed it twice during the Virginia Festival of the Book.
