Special to the Rappahannock News
“Exaltation” was not only the name of one of their winning concert pieces, but the feeling of all the students in the Rappahannock County High School Band this weekend when they heard the news that their band had won top honors in the regional competition.
At this year’s Festival in the Parks competition in Hershey, Pennsylvania, competing against 10 other bands, the RCHS Band took the “Best Overall Concert Band” award. They also were awarded a “First Place” among “single A” (smaller schools) as well as a “Superior” rating for their performance in the competition. In addition, the band was awarded “Second Place” in the Marching Band category.
Band director Matt Yonkey was emotional as he praised the talent and dedication of his band members.
