Saturday was a joyous day for the local Habitat for Humanity effort. The midday program where the county’s first Habitat for Humanity house was built for Barbara Shanks and her family began with project coordinator Bob Darby welcoming everybody and saying this marked a, “Great day for comm unity..and a great day for Christians,” who had the opportunity to five Christ’s message in working on the project. About 300 people responded and contributed to the effort, he said. Trinity Episcopal Church’s minister Jennings Hobson ffl offered the invocation and Nan Butler, David Clanagan and members of the First Baptist Church sang “Your Grace and Mercy Brought Me Through.”
Gray Ghost Vineyards received a bronze medal for its 1994 ' Chardonnay in the Vintage Virginia competition held at the Prince Michel Winery on May 9. Gray Ghost’s Chardonnay from the Sara E. Vineyards of Stephen Lynch, Rappahannock County, was fermented and aged three months in French oak barrels. This becomes the second wine from Gray Ghost to receive a medal.
