To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, The National Moment of Remembrance resolution was passed in December 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time for all Americans to observe in their own way a moment of remembrance and respect, taking time out from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence.
In addition to enjoying the day off from work we all can observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes, by visiting memorials, by flying the U.S. flag at half staff until noon, by participating in a “National Moment of Remembrance” at 3 p.m. or even plant a tree, a rose or even sow wildflowers in memory of a lost one. Let’s remember our great soldiers who laid down their lives for the cause of humanity so that we can live and grow in a healthy and peaceful environment.
We can share with our children the real purpose of Memorial Day. While it is fun to go on picnics or camping, children should still be taught the true meaning of this holiday and why we recognize Memorial Day. Remember they are the future of tomorrow.
Let’s join hands on Memorial Day to pay tribute to these soldiers with our family and our loved ones and friends.
