Remembering Ihere is thunder forecast for this weekend. It will arrive on Memorial Day and is anticipated to be •A. quite loud. It is hoped that everyone will take notice of its boisterous nature and be jolted, at least momentarily, as it comes with a message. Several thousand bikers will be riding into Washington, D.C., many through and from Rappahannock County. Joining forces with other riders from across the country, Rolling Thunder — Ride for Freedom, will amass in our nation’s capitol to remember and to reconnect with others in celebrating this country’s past and current soldiers. Formed in 1987 by several veterans who wanted to “shake things up,” Rolling Thunder is committed to rallying in Washington, D.C. on Memorial Day until all POWs and MIAs are accounted for in this country. While we mourn the fallen, we cannot forget the piany soldiers from other wars, like Vietnam, that are imprisoned or still listed as missing in action. Rolling Thunder’s major function is to publicize the POW-MIA issue. To educate the public of the fact that many American prisoners of war were left behind after all past wars, lb help correct the past and to protect the future veterans from being left behind should they become prisoners of war-missing in action. They are committed to helping American veterans from all wars. So if you hear thunder this weekend hopefully it will be from the noise of motorcycle engines as thousands of bikers roar into Washington, D.C. from across this state and the country. Take notice.
