At a special meeting of the School Board Tuesday evening, School Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell proposed that the School Board put the task of putting together a bid request for a long discussed new high school track into the hands of County Administrator John McCarthy.
“1 think that this could help with support by the Board of Supervisors if we do this,” Chappell said. “It means bidding without acrylic. I want to bid an acrylic surface separately. at a later date. I think it is u portant for our students down the road. “
Last year, the School Board took a bid for a number of construction projects, including a track with a vinyl surface. Lantz Construction Company of Winchester Virginia bid $550,000 for the full, acrylic covered track. Because the bid for the several projects came in higher than originally estimated, the track has been separated from the rest of the package of proposed school improvements.
