plan would make 1-81 more than eight lanes, twelve in parts, with half dedicated to trucks. The impact will be devastating to the areas directly near 1-81 but also the surrounding areas. Specifically, the volume of truck traffic that will divert onto US 11 and US 211 is estimated to drastically increase.
Blubaugh added, “The idea should not be to make it merely more attractive to larger and larger trucks going faster and faster, but to make the highway more effective and less damaging to the environment. While we must make upgrades for safety purposes, we certainly don’t need to expand the entire highway into a truck behemoth.”
