By Bill Kossler Rappahannock News Staff Writer There is a new stop for tourists, Inn and Bed and Breakfast guests perambulating about the Town of Washington. Sarah Batchelder has set up her shop Rush River Imports in the picturesque little cottage on Gay Street, by the medical center.
Batchelder, the 20-year-old granddaughter of Rappahannock icon, Roger Batchelder, and daughter of area photographer David Batchelder, offers an eclectic selection. Her offerings include imported lotions and soaps, the photography of David Batchelder and imported hand made jewelry. “I’ve always wanted to have a little shop, and we wanted to keep this place in the family, “ said Batchelder, explaining that her grandfather’s real estate office was in that same cottage, rented from Dr. Jerry Martin for many years. It has a certain sentimental value, and maintains a thread of connection to her grandfather, who passed last year. For the time being Batchelder plans to continue also doing accounting work in Fauquier County* during the week, so the shop is open Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, call (540) 219-9020.
