Water and Sewer ordinance
may get revamped

The Rappahannock County Water and Sewer Authority agreed on Jan. 18 to begin taking another look at the county’s 22-year-old Sewer Use Ordinance.
Town of Washington Mayor Eugene Leggett suggested the board review the current ordinance, which was enacted in 1985.
He said it is an appropriate time to revise the document, because Washington is planning to install a wastewater system and town leaders will use the county’s ordinance to craft guidelines for the town. Board members agreed.
“It’s a good opportunity to revisit this thing, and I think there will be some things we’ll want to change,” Leggett said.
The ordinance sets forth regulations for construction, system connections and sewage disposal for the sewer system owned, maintained and operated by the authority.
Any changes to the ordinance would need to be approved by the County Board of supervisors.
