From the front page of the Rappahannock News of Jan 15,1987 Highway Funding Four-lane Route 211 to reach Sperryville in 1992

By Daphne Hutchinson

Rappahannock News staff writer In 1964, Virginia’s General Assembly decreed that Route 211, as part of the state’s arterial highway system, would be dual laned. A quarter of a century later, it looks like that decree may finally be carried out. John McCarthy, the Board of Supervisors administrative assistant, told the Supervisors at their January meeting that Route 211 is scheduled to be four-laned from Washington to Sperryville over the next six years at a cost of $13 million. Plans call for the first construction contracts to be let in July 1989,with the project’s completion date expected in June 1992.
