Recent experience with the
Leesburg-Hamilton power line is part of a sad pattern.
Local citizens and local government have invested huge efforts to preserve both our economy and our landscape.
Then Dominion Virginia Power comes along and uses its monopoly authority to assert an unproven need, run right over our efforts and construct ugly facilities “for our own good.” Giant power lines are now close to approval here near Leesburg, and are planed between Winchester and Areola, between Hamilton and Middleburg and on to Warrenton. A web of ugly towers and wires will be strung all across our beautiful countryside and through our own back yards.
Local citizens and local officials find themselves battling with this wealthy giant, having to raise their own funds to study alternatives and stymied by laws and regulations that give huge advantage to the power company over its customers and Virginia’s citizens.
