added. The new tentative schedule calls for rightof-way acquisition to start again in fiscal year 1988-89. Construction on the first section, from Washington to the Covington River, is expected to begin in the summer of 1989 and continue for 18 months to two years. Work on the second section, from the Covington River to Sperryville, will start in the summer of 1990 with completion anticipated in 1992. What will happen when the dual lane reaches Sperryville? “Well, it will probably tie down with what is there and that will probably be it for many, many years,” Mr. Askew reported. At present, he said, there are no plans to bring the dual lanes “around or through Sperryville.” He did note that a connecting spur may be built at some future point to tie Routes 522 and 231 to Route 211. “There’s a real problem getting trucks through Sperryville off Route 522 to Route 211,” Mr. Askew pointed out. However, this project has not yet advanced even to the planning stage, the resident engineer added.
