A fourth violation and the student forfeits 30 minutes of recess, parents are called again and the youngster gets sent to the principal's office.
Any discipline plan should also include a severe clause, according to Rolfe. If the student's behavior disrupts class and prevents the teacher from teaching, the student goes immediately to the principal.
Rolfe noted the importance of spelling out discipline plans to parents, either by letter or phone. “You have to rely on parents to provide assistance.” shS stressed. Building principals should also be informed, she added.
High school teachers at the workshop session maintained that their problem students frequently don’t want to be in school at all. Threats of suspension aren’t effective deterrents to disruptive behavior in these cases because the kids want to be suspended.
