Too Far Gone chased Noble Order over the 14th and last fence, but couldn't catch him. William Russell’s Noble Order, ridden by Hilary Thompson, was a four-length winner over Too Far Gone, with Roy Graham’s Man of Rythm, Ready Snodgrass up, third.
It was a close wire-to-wire win for Irish Reports over 11 rivals in the open hurdle race. The Houghton family entry stole the start by five lengths and was stalked for most of the mile and a third by Joseph Gillet on his Blue Barbizon.
At the last hurdle Exbolin was second and nearly caught the leader in a furious drive down the stretch. Winner by a scant half length was Jen Houghton’s Irish Reports, ridden by Bernie Houghton, over Alfred Smith’s Exbolin, John “Casey” Hamilton riding. Third was Blue Barbizon. The junior flat race went off in two divisions—for ponies and for horses. First were the ponies. Dawn Dugan’s Sharp Start lived up to his name and was off in a flash and never headed, winning the twothird mile sprint by six lengths over Daphrie Laimbeer’s game little States Pride. Third by a distance was Old Mill Stables’ Starlight riddin by Isabelita Ford, followed by Andrew Haskell on his Neige. In the horse division Just a Tinch was away First at the drop of the flag.
