Assistant superintendent Jerry Lysik, who also serves as transportation supervisor, reported that the station wagon used for transporting special education students is “not at all in good repair...It’s just hanging by a thread at this point." He pointed to information in a fact sheet and recommendations passed out only to board members, apparently indicating the low milage pier gallon that the vehicle is getting. “It’s really a testimony to quality maintenance,” he added.
According to Lysik, the station wagon is on the road all day, every day, picking up pre-schoolers for individual work with the child development specialist and returning them home to various parts of the county, taking trainable mentally retarded students to Culpeper and back for classes, transporting speech therapy youngsters and a TMR multiply handicapped child to the elementary school and then back home.
