William Bronze, Dr. McCormick riding.

Adding to the colorful picture were three grays among the seven horses going to the post for the open timber race. Roman Hunt and Baby Doe were the leaders at the start, passed by Bright Answer as they galloped across the mountainside.

Roman Hunt regained the lead, on the next turn up the mountain, but Dr. Joe Rogers’ Baby Doe sailed past him going into the last of 11 fences. Randy Waterman eased Baby Doe as they crossed the wire three lengths to the good of Oliver Brown’s Roman Hunt, Don Yovanovich up. Third by another five lengths was Peter Thompson’s Shy Donald, ridden by Bill Chewning.

First away in the ladies timber race was last season's leading rider, Susan Sutula, on her Too Far Gone. Somaldi Gold caught them at the fence in front of the stand which they leaped together and led. the field of eight up the mountain. Then Noble Order romped down the hillside, overtaking them. ■ 11 11 "
