The BZA members agreed to send Payne’s application to the supervisors for clarification and rezoning to commercial along with any other changes in the area deemed appropriate.
In other action, the BZA voted unanimously to grant a special use permit to Amissville United Methodist Church to provide facilities limited to 30 students from Christian Oaks Academy through June 30, 1982.
"I see no reason why our facility shouldn’t be used for something of this nature...These children need a place to call home for the balance of the (school) year," said Paul Poling, trustee for the church.
He noted that the school, formerly housed in the basement of a Rixeyville home, was found to be in violation of state fire code regulations and was subsequently closed down by Culpeper authorities.
According to Poling, all the teachers at the private Christian school are “qualified, recognized ...There’s no problem with that part of it.” In addition, he reported that sanitarian Jack Lockhart has approved sewage disposal facilities for the school.
