Almost everything about Patrick’s life is confused by the legends that grew up around this most unusual and popular man, so it is hard to say what really happened and what did not. One legend tells that when Patrick’s ship landed in Brittany, the crew wandered for weeks in the desolate countryside, nearly starving before Patrick saw in a dream where a herd of wild pigs could be found.
Eventually, Patrick made his way back to his parents’ farm where they, understandably, preferred that he stay. But Patrick saw a messenger in a dream bringing him the pleas of the Irish people that he return there to bring Christianity to the Emerald Isle.
