The Washington Cash Store had quite a different look. then, as can be seen by the old pictures of the business. Gas lights provided the illumination for the counters and rows of products available to the consumer of the 1930’s, '40’s and '50's.
The Cash Store at that time was a center, not only for shopping, but for the social life, of some of the families who lived back in Harris Hollow. Giles remembers Saturday nights with whole families hanging around the store. "We used to keep pitchforks and shovels out on the porch," he said. "When things started to get loud, we'd rush out and grab the tools and bring them inside."
Giles remembers a case where his father did some detective work to literally track down the cause of some items that were missing from the store for several days in a row. The senior Giles put
