After the plan was uncovered, action had to be taken and taken quickly, Barbara recalled. From the start of this six week project, the Thompsons were under pressure to organize petitions, lobbying and letters before the elapse of the deadline for public comment on the land trade.

The Thompsons found, with great pleasure, that people in the county were quick to help and more than willing to support their effort in any possible way. Through this cooperative fight, the parkland was saved and the whole community remained able to enjoy Oventop Mountain, Barbara noted.
