Seek Grant
Joy Luke, a member of the board of directors for the non-profit Sursum Corda School and Day Care Center, informed the supervisors that the center hopes to try for community development block grant funds to help finance a building program.
She noted that both the county and the incorporated town of Washington are eligible for a maximum of $700,000 through the block grant program.
Each jurisdiction can make one application and if the total of the two doesn't exceed $1,400,000, the town and the county may join in a third application for the balance.
Currently, Washington is considering a block grant application for its water system and the county fof Sperryville’s sewer system. "I know the sewer and water projects will take precedence but I think there will be money left over," Luke said.
It is this left-over balance that Sursum Corda hopes to secure through a joint application from the town and the county, according to Luke. Block grant application forms are expected to be available as of July 14, she noted, adding that Sursum Corda's directors want to see the application first in order to determine
