In the sentencing hearing this week, probation officer Dean Hahn told the court that he has found Jenkins to be very cooperative and very remorseful. He described the Washington man’s prior record as "very minor” and noted that Jenkins was “apparently very much under the influence of alcohol” when he fired into a pick-up truck driven by Billy Estes on September 26, 1981. Since that incident, the probation officer said, Jenkins has been “alcohol free.”
John Burke, pastor of the Gid Brown Bible Church, said he’d known the defendant all his life and had visited him in jail following the shooting offense. Burke testified that he’d led Jenkins to the Lord and that his life since has been ‘‘changed miraculously.”
