Robert Eastham inquired if the board could ask to have the rent dropped on the bus shop garage, now owned by the highway department as the result of a condemnation suit last year. The board didn't include money in its upcoming budget for rent of the building since a new combination central officebus shop was expected to be ready by August, Eastham said, adding that the construction project is behind schedule and may not be completed for six months.
“That request is in order," Askew replied, but suggested the board ask that the bus hop rent be cancelled in a separate letter from the communication agreeing to donate right-of-way.
In dealing with the first items on last Tuesday’s agenda, the school board put an end — at least for one year — to their marathon sessions that have regularly dragged on until 1 and 2 a.m. Reorganizing for the coming year. the board voted unanimously to continue holding its meetings on the second Tuesday of the month in the elementary school library at 7:30 p.m. — and ending at 11:30 p.m.
