Supervisor chairman Dick Latham noted that the Equalization Board, charged with equalizing values fixed on property in the county’s recent 100 percent fair market value assessment, will continue in office until December, 1982.
“They’ve decided not to schedule any more meetings (with property owners) until there are enough requests filed with the Commission of Revenue to warrant one," Latham said.
In other action, the supervisors voted unanimously to approve a resolution allowing the Rappahannock County Library to receive $5,004 in state aid to public libraries
They set a public hearing for August 2 on a request from Luther Payne to rezone Payne’s garage lot on Route 211 near Washington from agriculture to commercial.
The supervisors also agreed to wait until work begins on the jail renovation before soliciting bids to put an exit door to the fire escape from the second floor of the county courthouse.
A recent letter from the state fire marshal read at Wednesday’s meeting notes that the door must swing in the direction of exit travel and have a single latch readily opened without key. The style may be single, double or dutch door.
Currently, the only access to the fire escape is through a window, an arrangement that violates the state fire code.
