As of 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the last action before adjournment, the Rappahannock school board went the final few feet to the goal line to give the county high school a soccer team, hiring Glenn Davis as coach for 1*18283.
It was the culmination of an effort that began five years ago. Aptly, the success came on the heels of the world's biggest sporting event, the finals Sunday of the World Cup soccer matches.
We're sure the school board's action will spark cheers from a horde of youngsters who've been waiting a long time to play soccer for their high school. The board must share the ovation with a list of community minded Rappahannock people who paved the way with volunteer work.
First and foremost, credit goes to Don Keithley who managed, coached, sponsored and hauled kids to their opening season of competition in Fauquier's junior and adult leagues.
