Four Percent
Supervisor H. B. Wood suggested that salaries for school board employees be held to four percent.
The cost of pay raises should be computed at several different percentage levels, Chairman J. R. Latham countered.
“It looks obvious to me. We've got to do some cutting some place,” interjected Supervisor Clarence Baldwin. “People will never stand for doubling their taxes,” he said, seconding Wood’s suggestion that pay increases be dropped to four percent from the seven percent asked for by the school board.
Gil key came back with a proposal for holding salary increases for administration to three percent, winning support from his fellow board members for the idea. But, he added, raises for teacher should be at least four percent.
“My preference is five percent,” said Latham.
“I could live with five percent,” Gilkey responded.
“A lot of people aren’t getting anything,” argued Baldwin, repeating his endorsement of four percent salary hikes for all school
