I think not. In fact, it is conceivable that each of these areas will eventually occupy the niche that Latin now holds. This position is not a judgement on the value of Latin, Rather it is a statement of the reality of Latin’s place in public education today. Certainly Latin retains its intrinsic value, yet it is no longer perceived as mandatory to the instruction of all students.
The above hypotheses are naturally only that, but they do lead one to rethink future educational direction. I have described the present public school approach to education as facing difficulties. •Just as a glass can be seen as half full or half empty, so can these problems be seen as challenges.
