Nicholson Is
Navy “Rocker”
Ronald Lee Nicholson has returned to San Diego, California, after several months of sea duty on the USS Enterprise.
While the naval aircraft carrier was at sea, it was stranded on a sand bar and Nicholson and his shipmates had to run back and forth across the decks to rock the ship and dislodge it from the sand bar.
Nicholson, a 1977 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, left for ship duty in November, 1982, but was called home from Africa in late November after the sudden death of his father. The son of Matilda F. Nicholson and the late Otis Nicholson of Washington, Ronald plans to follow a career in the U.S. Navy.
