With an apparent majority sticking at four percent. Cox figured that reducing pay raises by three percentage points lowered school expenditures by $41,513. Holding administrative salaries to three percent increases added $3,381 to the deduction.
The supervisors turned to the two new teaching positions included in the proposed school budget.
School board member Robert Kastham reported that if the State Board of Education ups mathmatic’s units necessary for graduation to three, the requirement won’t take effect until the 1984-85 school year. He described the additional math instructor proposed for the high school and kindergarten teacher for the elementary school as “in case of need” positions. Both slots were lopped out of the budget for a savings of $25,000. An additional $2,200 was cut by eliminating summer maintenance employees.
The $68,713 total cut from salaries brings fringe benefit expenses down by $14,111, Cox noted.
