Jeffrey Vail, a ninth grade student at the Wakefield School, placed first in the National History Day district competition held at Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music on April 23.
The theme for the 1983 National History Day is “Turning Points in History.” Winning contestants presented some aspect of the changes effected by the development and use of atomicweapons.

A Wakefield sophomore, Mary Jo Lawrence, has won the 1st place gold medal award in the 1983 National Latin Examination which was administered to thousands of students across the nation in March.
Five other Wakefield students received the second place silver medal for their maxima cum laude score on the examination. In the order of their awards
