Where are you going to get the fish to put in that new or old pond of yours? You should purchase the correct kinds and amounts from a reputable fish hatchery and not from your neighbor’s pond, says Larry Robinson, Biologist with the Soil Conservation Service (SCS). Correct stocking of your fish pond will provide many years of enjoyable fishing for your family and friends.
Before you stock a pond, eliminate wild fish. You can do this by either draining the pond or applying an approved fish toxicant. For a warm water pond, stock 50 large-mouth bass and 500 bluegills (150 of these can be redear sunfish) per acre. Up to 100 channel catfish can also be stocked. Do not stock
