At its July meeting, the Washington Town Council discussed an ordiannce that would grant Potomac Edison a franchise for use of town streets and other public places for lines and equipment.
The ordinance extends an existing right-of-way agreement for the utility that was enacted by ordinance 34 years ago.
Representatives from Potomac Edison had originally approached the town several months ago with their draft of an ordinance. Mayor Newbill Miller, the utility’s attorney J. Sloan Kuykendall, town attorney Doug Baumgardner and Jim Poffenburger, PotEd’s Luray office representative, met last week to hammer out a draft ordinance satisfactory to all parties.
