Mrs. Frank (Doris) Donald went to Lynchburg last week accompanied by Mrs. Edward B. Armstrong, of Jeffersonton, and Mrs. L. Starke Jones, of Culpeper. The three spent four days at the Woman’s Missionary Union Week.
Last week Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church held its annual vacation church school.
But that was last week. And now it’s still. And hot.. Much too hot to be too witty. Everyone feels about the same way. Betty Jewell says she spent the week trying to beat the heat—and not doing too well. Doris Donald says her trip to Lynchbiirg was very worthwhile, tout hot, and when she came back, the beans in the garden were staring her in the face and she canned three batches. Sam Vanaman says, “Turn down the heat!” Mrs. Edward J. (Helen) Pawley, at Rock Mills, says it’s been “rather warm, but there have been hotter days,” she says, “The heat feels good to old bones.”
Chuckie Frye isn’t trying to fight it. He’s spending his vacation sitting at home musing about his engagement to Barbara Martin (she of the marvelous chocolate eclair cake). Debbie Knighting spent the weekend at Colonial Beach trying to forget it. Kenny and Beverly Settle did likewise by going to King’s Dominion on Monday.
But please keep in mind until next week what Ralph Waldo Emerson (and Aunt Michele) always say of it, “All sorts of things and weather/Must be taken in together./To make up a year/and a sphere.”
