It didn’t help to get out of bed at five in the morning. It was still hot. Already between 80-90 degrees. For two weeks now, the high temperatures have been pushing 100 and humidity has hovered around 50 percent. Constantly clear skies confounded hopes of the long wishes for rain.
Sunday’s storm fell over Fairfax, but left little here other than lightning, thunder, and a few brief, big rain drops that splattered and practically sizzled on hot parking lots. The result was a mere trace of precipitation, mostly over Amissville.
Tuesday’s rain only ran small rivulets down the dusty windshields. But the skies cleared quickly. Then resumed the “Triple-H” weather: hot, hazy and humid
The forecast kept predicting “scattered thunder storms”, but if they were scattered, they “scat” before they hit Rappahannock.
In fact, it’s been two weeks since the county enjoyed its last relief. There was approximately an inch of rain on July 5.
