Madison’s big men, Frankie Hill and 6’7” center Carroll Lee Ward, manhandled the Panthers on offense when the two teams came back on the court. (Hill ended up with 22 points and Ward with 21.) But the hope for an upset was doused as the visitors went on a spree, tallying nine unanswered points before Jeff Porter broke the ice for Rappahannock with a free throw. Clarence Pendleton tried to light an offensive fire adding eight to up his total to 22. but it sputtered as he was tagged for his fifth foul and a technical to boot with 2:15 left. On his heels for the walk to the bench was Porter who left the game with 10 points and a bit of class, bowing and tossing kisses to the Madison fans. Next came Ken Estes and Tommy Jenkins, each hitting the five foul limit.
