While commending him on his presentation, the Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously followed a Planning Commission recommendation to deny Chilton Raiford’s application for a special use permit to sell shoes weekends and evenings by appointment at his residence on Route 211 west of Amissville. The action came at the Board’s February 22 session.
Raiford wanted to use an accessory building on his property to store and sell the shoes as a continuation of the yard sales he had held during the summer and fall. Raiford explained that as general manager of five ladies’ shoe stores in the Tysons Corner area he has access to out-of-season shoes which he is able to sell at a very low price. Referring to the footwear he has offered at his yard sales, he noted.
