In his other records, Wingfield shows a marked decrease in snow this year. He only measured 1 of it last month compared with 52.5" — nearly three feet — of the icy stuff during February, 19X5. It isn’t that it’s been any more dry this year though. In fact, the reverse is true. Wingfield collected 7.92” precipitation in his Sperryville rain gauge last month, compared to 5.21” last year during February. But Wingfield said there was less snow because the county was not getting moisture and cold at the same time.
He admitted that was a sorry situation for those who like to ski, but confessed to being one of those who prefer it that way. Howwould just as soon see a few more “false” spring days.
