Rappahannock on Monday when freezing rain began to fall around noon. There was a winter storm watch with occasional snow.
Assistant superintendent Tom Campbell said the temperature was hovering right around 30 degrees when he woke at 4:45 Tuesday morning in his Luray home. The temperature hung there for a long time while school officials considered the possibility of closing school, he said. But around six o'clock the sun seemed to help some. Everybody was on time to school, he added.
“It’s hard on everybody when you miss a day," Said Campbell, saying that he felt “real good” that only one day had been deducted from the spring break so far. The system has three days left to make up from the last winter blast, he said. School will be held on March 12 (which was to have been an in-service day), April 23 (which he described as the tail of the spring break) and May 28.
