SPRING CAME AND WENT LAST WEEK as the mercury climbed to the 70s, setting new records for the D.C. area. While the warm weather was here, Joey Eldred and Lewis Compton got the jump on the rest of the young model airplane and kite enthusiasts (top). But the ground was still frozen, a reminder that winter has not yet said goodbye. Everytime their plane touched down, they had to take time out for repairs with a roll of tape (bottom).
