The two most interesting races of the day appear to be the third, a ladies timber race, and the eighth, the second owner-rider timber race on the eight-race Seven Corners circuit.
Patti Cassell, leading lady rider on the 1983 Virginia point-to-point circuit, has entered her Splashy Lea and Cavalry Lover. Splashy Lea was second in the ladies timber race at Casanova behind Randy Rouse’s Cinzano ridden by Toinette Jackson.
Others entered in the ladies timber race include Randy Waterman's El Flaco, to be ridden by Juliet Graham, and Susan Sutula’s Too Far Gone. Ms Sutula was leading lady rider in 1982.
The owner-rider timber race has 13 entries, three more than were entered in the Casanova Cup last week. Among them are Don Yovanovich’s Never Time, who came second in the Casanova Cup, and Allen Olson’s Shandy, who was fourth in that race. Randy Waterman’s Regulo and Handy Hill have been entered, as have Royal Crown Stables’ Change Reaction and Danceatron and Speedy Smithwick’s Gala Blackjack.
