Zoning administrator David Konick explained that the application came under the section of the county zoning ordinance which allows retail sales in antique, craft and gift shops by special use permits on agriculturally zoned land, such as Raiford’s. He said he chose that section because “the level of retail use was not clear.” However, Konick acknowledged that the sales were “something beyond a home occupation” which would be allowed by right.
(The Planning commissioners at their meeting last week, maintained that Raiford’s business was not a home occupation since he was not making the shoes.)
