A good course and strong entries are expected Saturday as spring racing moves to Sperryville for the Rappahannock Hunt point-topoint meet.
Pair races at 10:30 a.m. will open the activities at Thornton Hill Farm. Prizes for fast and optimum times will be awarded.
Eight hunt races and a unique hound race make up the afternoon schedule which will begin at noon with a Vj-mile flat race. When entries closed Monday night 19 horses had been entered for this race.
Rappahannock is a popular meet with many horsemen because of its lower fences that do not put a great demand on the horses. The meet has been plagued in the past with bad weather and has been cancelled because of inclement conditions on occasion. This year things look hopeful, however.
‘The course is in excellent shape,” says Oliver Brown, huntsman for Rappahannock. “There are a few wet spots, but if the projected weather forecast holds it should be a great course.
“The main thing we hope for is a decent day. If we have weather like we had last year we won’t be greedy!”
