Hunting season has been open for a few weeks now, and the following are some reminders about checking stations and when different species are in season.

Deer season opened on November 19 and will continue until January 5. Jim Bankston, Rappahannock Game Warden, said that approximately 250 deer had been checked in Rappahannock in the first two weeks. Bankston said that close to 25 turkeys had been checked since the season opened on November 5. Turkey season will close on December 31. In one week of bear season, which opened on November 26, Bankston said that around seven to eight bear had been checked. Bear season will close on January 5.

Rabbit season opened on November 5 and will close on January 31, quail season lasts from November 19 to February 28, grouse season is from November 5 to January 31, pheasant season is from November 12 to January 31, bobcat season lasts from November
