But there’s nothing dark or gloomy about the most recent collection of her watereolon to be unveiled at Middle St. this Sunday. Her sunny optimism, her bright outlook on life are reflected in the peaceful country landscapes and vivid hues of wildflowers.
This final show is a tribute to her late husband, Albert Lucaa. For 20 years, from 1929 to 1949, he was headmaster of St Albans, the Episcopal boys’ school on the grounds of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. “For 20 years, Albert Lucas inspired those boys to feel that they owed the school their loyalty and support throughout their lives. He helped create the St Albans family. That’s what they call themselves, the graduates of the school. They are devoted, supportive and active in everything that pertains to the school. It’s very unusual,” Mrs. Lucas explained.
“This year is St Albans’ 76th anniversary. When-I received their letter announcing some of the activities and ftmd raising efforts planned for the anniversary, I decided to contribute the proceeds from this, my very last show,” she added. “I’m so proud of the way the school is going, the way the school family is so dose. They’re just fantastic. They’ve been such a joy to me. I wanted to do something, a little something, in return.”
