Luke told the Board. Luke added the Board should “face up to the fact (that) we have these all over the county right now.”
Complicating matters are several things: The question of mult-family dwellings currently has litigation pending between Patricia Saltonstall of Flint Hill and the Board of Zoning Appeals; the request conies at a time when the county is revising its zoning ordinance (or would have to revise the "73 Zoning Ordinance to reflect any decision); enforcement probably will be difficult. Mt. Lebanon and fire companies hosting meetings on the proposed zoning ordinance $25 each for use of their facilities. Fire companies include Flint Hill, Amissville and Sperryville.
• Coalition of rural counties. The Board reviewed a letter from Patrick County (pop. 15,282) asking Rappahannock to join other rural counties concerned about distribution of the state’s highway funds.
“Rural counties in a lot of cases get the short end of the stick,” Chairman Latham said. Supervisor Estes said the competition with cities for funds could get worse, alluding to a dty in Prince William county that voted to contribute funds to a highway project, funds that come from taxpayer dollars. Supervisor Estes said decisions such as this in urban areas made it difficult for the state not to allocate the funds requested.
The supervisors decided the Patrick County letter was worth further consideration. The Board will respond in support of the organizational efforts and ask for more information.
