Whenever a nu^or undertaking is considered—whether buying a new home or car or choosing a career move—a responsible person considers all angles and might even go so far as to set down in writing all the criteria on which to base the final decision. Listmaking has always been one of my pet peeves, but I’ve found over the years that it does help focus my thoughts.
Now the Board of Supervisors comes along and they decide to have a landfill. Fine, we most likely will need another one in several years. But how did they choose this site? What criteria did they use? Where’s their list? Based on their choice (and because they haven’t made their reasons public), here’s the criteria I must assume they used:
1. That it must be in an environmentally sensitive area, border a river or two and be close to a very large pond, thus, ensuring maximum potential of polluting our rivers.
