The weather was more tike California, warmer than December cold for the Turkey Ridge Run II road race sponsored by the Castle ton Fire Department last Saturday.
Fifty-one runners participated, up from 41 last year. One of the runners, Jill Morganthaler, came from San Francisco. She placed second in the age 30-39 category, finishing in 69:49 for the 7.1-mile course.
Paul Baltutic of Vint Hill Farms won the overall mens’ division. Baltutic finished in 41:58, a new course record. It was his own record Baltutic had broken; he took Turkey Ridge Run I honors a year ago with 42:36.
Lynda Durfee of Alexandria won the overall womens’ division, finishing in 51:21.
Philip Strange, vice president of the Castleton Volunteer Fire Department and event organizer, said he’d hoped for a larger turnout for the race but maintained that he wasn’t disappointed. “We had a beautiful day and everybody had a good time. That’s the main idea,” Strange said.
