each into the mixture. Stir in sour cream or buttermilk and the cup of chopped apples.

In a separate bowl sift or stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg ami ginger. Add chopped walnuts and toss well.

Stir the dry ingredients into the apple batter and mix thoroughly.

Spoon the batter into the pans and level tiie tops. Put aside to rest for at least 20 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Bake the large loaf in a moderate oven for about 1 hour and the smaller loaves 45 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick or metal skewer inserted in the center of the loaf comes out dean and dry.

Remove bread from the oven. Let the bread cool ten minutes before removing from the pans. Place on metal rack to finish cooling.

1 cup sugar

Vi cup oil

2 eggs, beaten

3 tablespoons milk
