It was apparent to me that the supervisors have done very little homework on this particularly delicate issue since of the two members of the landfill committee one was absent and the other said nothing.
I might expect this kind of representation from large dty politicians, but I didn’t think it would happen in Rappahannock County. I not only have to pay taxes to pay for a landfill in my back yard, but I have to pay out of my pocket to buy professional talent to stop it. Proving the accessibility of thef. Soil seems more important to the supervisors than the well being of the citizens. The attitude seems to be “this is a dirty job, so let’s get it done aa quickly as possible no matter what.”
Mr. Latham made the statement that this site selection “was not set in concrete,” but it certainly appears that it is set in thick mud because even after the evidence was submitted and the plea for the people was made they refused to drop this site from consideration, and as far as the record shows this is the only site that they are seriously considering. No mention was made of any other specific location.
It’s a shame to see another battle looming such as the Harris Hollow nursing home ordeal. A fight to the end will only result in bitter feelings and added cost to the citizens of Rappahannock County.
