Orange-Date Bread
2Vi cups flour
Vi teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
4 tablespoons soft butter
3/4 cup sugar

1 cup fresh orange juice
2 tablespoons fresh-grated orange rind
Vi cup chopped oats
Vi cup rolled oats
Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder. Cream together the butter and sugar, then beat in the egg. Alternately add the flour mixture and the orange juice, beating each time, until all but 2 tablespoons of the flour have been added. Add the grated orange rind.
Sprinkle the chopped dates with the reserved flour and roll them around in it, separating the bits from each other and breaking up clumps. Add the coated dates and the oats to the batter and stir well.
Spoon the batter into 1 large buttered loaf pan or 2 small ones ami bake in a preheated oven at 360 degrees for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted near the center of a loaf comes out clean. Serve warm or with cream cheese. Makes one large loaf or 2 small ones.
